Jacket and Jeans?

Jacket and Jeans?
WTF is going on?
A few years ago, wearing jacket and jeans was the preserve of Mr. Midlife crisis. It also put whoever was wearing said articles to unreserved ridicule. Deservedly so I might add. Why? Well just try reversing it and going out in a pair of suit trousers and a denim jacket. See what I mean?
Now I notice that more and more people are wearing this combination and usually I took exactly the same line as before and sniggered under my breath. Until Saturday night that is. I met up with a laydee friend for a drink and what did she turn up wearing? Jacket and denim miniskirt!
Cue an excruciating 2 hours as I (Somehow) managed to bite my lip and not say "I dont want to spoil the mood or anything, but why are you dressed like a 45 year old bloke?"
The vagueries of fashion have always been a mystery to me. After saturday I feel like giving up entirely.

jacket and jeans (on men ) is still the preserve of aging soft rockers and other ***** whose wives haven't got the bottle to tell them how silly they look.
i am even a bit concerned about jeans + shirt, which i sometimes wear for work. i don't want to look like f***ing jonnie vaughan, after all.
as for your lady friend, i would say that if her skirt was short enough, she could be forgiven (for more or less anything!)

I reguarly go out to town or other decent smart/ trendy places in and around Brum wearing a designer suit jacket, flaired jeans with shoes, as do many other guys, I see nothing either confusing, middle aged or lacking in style with this combination at all- its one of the best smart/causual looks at the mo' worn by 25-40yr olds.

Can't be worse than the tracksuit & trainers brigade (chavs really). Been down the gym or doing circuit training have you?
Seems that the jeans/jacket is ok IF the jacked is single breasted. a big no-no to hav a double breasted one (a la 80's stylee). Even worse if the jacket is navy blue with gold buttons
Anyway, I don't know nufffink.

Okay what I wear is daft and 10 years out of date, but I go out to have fun, not to look good.

Probably a 'Throughly bloody nice bloke'
I know some fairly posh people they all wear a suit to go out, aforementioned Jacket and Jeans with a rugby top and deck shoes and chino shorts on holiday.

Astraboy- nope my hair is nothing like that you muppet! How you dress is as with other aspects of life up to you, I happen to like looking smart and reasonably trendy as I take pride in the way I look, If thats being vain, so be it, theres a lot worse traits one could have!
And as to looking like James Hewett, couldnt be further away

I really can't understand why people are so concerned about whether they are wearing " the right clothes". All these so called fashions which they feel they have to be seen wearing are purely a con by the manufacturers to make everyone keep buying more clothes and making their fortune for them.
Not many now would want to join the armed services, but wearing what is considered the correct latest fashion is a bit like wearing a uniform! What is everyone trying to prove for goodness sake?
Nothing wrong with wearing something that at least looks smart and on the more "swish" occasions, even a shirt and tie! And as for trying to hang on to their lost youth, what a waste of time and money that is. No point in pretending to be something that they obviously are not. I find it a bit of a laugh to see all these blokes wearing the same clothes.
