Expensive sunglasses for driving ? DON'T DO IT !

EVERY year I buy at least 3 pairs of shades for the car cos they get :

1) Sat on by me
2) Lost
3) Sat on by passenger
4) Dropped
5) Left in different car
6) Left in a pub somewhere
7) Nicked by the missus

etc etc

I'm sure you can get loads of stuff cheaper than in the US too, but it ain't rip off USA!

If people think Britain is such a rip off and terrible place to live, please exercise your right to go and and live elsewhere and stop complaining, or at least but them off the internet from elswhere, so consumer power might then have an effect.

Well, how do you expect the prices to come down if no-one complains. The problem with the UK is everyone moans to everyone else rather than exercising their rights to

a) complain direct to the seller
b) buy elsewhere, thus forcing the seller's to become more competitive

At least in the US, if the prices are too high then the Americans are very vocal about it.

It's not so much rip-off Britain, just that our import costs and VAT raise the purchase price of goods above a lot of other countries.

Zurich ain't exactly cheap either! ...and the airport is crap for shopping Although still duty-free

Why not order them online from the US - even with import duty, they'll be cheaper than the UK! Or buy online from Europe and don't pay any import duty!

Not sure if they do that particular make but www.giarre.com are pretty reasonable - they are based in Italy and I've used them a number of times.

Might be worth a look

Indeed you didn't, and I was speaking to people generally about it, not just you. It's good to see that you have elected to use your consumer rights to purchase them elswhere at a better price!

On a related point however, people in Britain always go on about how they want cheaper this and cheaper that, and that very obsession with cheaper everything and something for nothing mentality has led to the virtual destruction of the UK manufacturing industry, and to call centres etc. being re-located in countries where labour is as cheap as chips, causing the great British public to complain again! There's no pleasing some people!!!!!

You're quite right - I don't go looking for the cheapest option everytime - but when you look at £57 to £160 uplift in UK it's taking the pi$$.

I sometimes pay over the odds if I really want something that day from a quality retailer rather than scratching around on the web and waiting days for it..

I very much doubt its the online sites that are ripping you off - Mark-up on the Internet can go to stupid levels sometimes. I would guess the trade price is expensive thus the manufactures are ripping the public off

I went to the 'Sony Centre' to get a case for a new Sony camera I got from NY recently. Sales chap rembered me (oops; pang of guilt!!!) and asked me how much I'd paid in the end. I hope he mentions it to the owner that it was £180 cheaper inc a 256Mb card. I also declined to buy a Sony cloth case there for £45 - mate bought me same one for £18 from HK. It's THEM that make us tight and feel ripped off - I wasnt BORN mean
