Default Cellars ?

How is it with land at such a premium in anywhere worth living that cellars dont get built in new houses ?

Surely nowadays the damp issues have been ironed out and it would be a valuable space for washing machines and stuff like that.

Or is it because it would be costly to excavate and make it water proof ?

it's because people who build houses these days are the likes of barrets and wimpy who just want to churn out as many boxes as possible for as little cost as possible. to dig a hole costs money, and to take away the earth that was in the hole costs more money - hence they don't bother.

also - the main reason for having cellars in victorian houses was to store coal for open fires. this isn't really a priority for your average chav in the street. neither is having somewhere to store your fine wine.

fair comment, jacko - but if so, what the f*** do you care about cellars for? somewhere to put your stock of bacardi breezers after you picked them up "buy 50, get 50 free" at tesco?

I dont pick my food up from ASDA, how dare you,

They deliver it in a van.....

I dont really care about cellars, just interested, anyway I am off down Maccy D's in the Orion Ghia, Chelsea, Kelsey and Dwayne wont go to sleep until they have had some McNuggets, Coke and a good slap in public.

As for wine, the finest is Thunderbird, closely followed by L' Piat Dor.

building a house with a cellar would cost a fortune , thats why all the building regs are in place as you would end up having a room with no means of escape in the event of a fire and if they did build one to pass regs with a cellar the cost would not justify the end
