I had my renewal notice in the post this week as my VED runs out at the end of the month.

I trotted along to the local post office at lunchtime with the Renewal/SORN notice (correct box marked and signed), my MOT, my insurance certificate and some folding.

I passed it all over to matey behind the counter who checked it (except the MOT which was folded inside the insurance docs!!) and issued the disc. He handed my docs back including the signed Renewal/SORN notice and a receipt showing the S/N of the tax disc.

Are they supposed to be giving the renewal notice back these days? They never have before and there doesn't appear to be anything different printed on the Renewal/SORN notice. I queried it and was told "no, we don't keep these anymore", matey is known for being a bit of a misery/pillock so i just wondered if anyone else had heard this?

Yes, post office just threw mine in the bin, said they don't keep them anymore.

I got mine back - apparently there was a change in the rules last November.

Ah right o then. I didn't want to get accused of not taxing the car if it was a **** up at the Post Office!

I can stop worrying now

Iwan a recept should be cliped to the v11 which will have your tax disc serial number on, which will match up to the barcode on the v11. so the dvla know that, that disc is issued to that car.
