How much do you REALLY drink?
Read a piece in 'The Week' about Andy Fordham, World Darts Champion, and he sups about 150 bottles of Holsten Pils a week, FFS!
I'm sure we've all had a Pinnochio moment in front of the doctor during a check-up or when filling in a life insurance application form but do you track what you drink in the same period?
I have a drink every day of the week. Ranges from a glass of wine with supper in the evening to a 12 pinter on a Friday if I'm out with the lads.
How much do you drink?
Cheers

I did this as a point prover in November - Every time you have a drink for a month write it down. I reckoned 25-30 units a week. Wifey reckoned a lot more. (She is a nurse and was running an alcohol awareness course at work.) Turned out my average was 84 units hers was 50 Struggled through december keeping up the score rate, but since January have been having at least 3 alcohol free nighs a week. Probably still manage about 40 units though, but I love wine.

I think the recommended limit is 21 units for a bloke. Im afraid I still exceed that but I have become more aware of how much Im drinking and am cutting down. Im probably in the 25-30 unit per week bracket.
Off on holiday to South Africa today to see the relatives, so I know my liver is going to get a kicking for the next few days.
Then I will probably go on the wagon for a month to recover.

Nothing during the week, then 2-3 glasses of wine one night at the weekend, but only if I go out.
I don't really like alcohol much, and can't drink beer at all as it makes me gag.

I drink most nights, except when I work nights.
I probably do triple to quadruple the recommended limit. I'd say I did over the weekly limit just last night and I've got a house-warming tonight so that'll be a big one.
Quite scary to think about really!! Still, I train 5 days a week so it's keeps the body lean even if the liver's not in full health!

to be honest i try to avoid drinking in the weekdays, the hangovers are getting worse as i get older i find , and i very rarely drink at the weekends now. I only really drink if i've got it in the house, and i try to avoid having it in (nearest pub is 3 miles away) or if im away with work. i do go on benders now and again and if im drinking I drink big time. When i was a single soldier in germany (age 19-25) i was on it all the time
So how would i work out my average consumption (IIRC adivsed by my doctors its supposed to be something like 10 units a week innit ?) if one month i drink nothing then the next month im on a bender every night of the week.

The British have a stupid attitude to alcohol. its like we cannot enjoy ourselves or think we cant enjoy ourselves unless we are slurring our words, alcohol can enhance your mood but its a law of diminishing returns, I am not preachign or holier than thou, I like alcohol and gald its available but I think things are going to have to change a bit in the coming years as the situation has made a lot of town centres practically no go areas after 9pm.
