Camera lens details
I'm starting to get interested in photography, and the Canon A70 I have allows for add-on lenses, with an adaptor.
However, I have no idea of what the terms mean when it comes to buying additional lenses.
It seems to me, that there is one set of terms for digital cameras, and another for the proper SLR ones.
I'd like a better zoom lens, but they all seem to be listed in "mm", whereas digital cameras just say "5 times" zoom etc.
Can anyone offer me a magic formula to translate the details into ones I comprehend, so I can judge what I can get from each lens on offer?

As a very quick and basic guide
Non digital
50mm is basically equivalent to what your eyes see. The measurement refers to focal length.
Less than 50 mm is "wide angle" and more than 50 mm is "telephoto"
The longer the lens, obviously the greater the magnifying effect.
No idea how that will work adapting your existing Camera though.
Also bear in mind that depending upon the camera's imaging software, the focl length may be magnified, so 50 mm is longer for digital
