Default e-books and copyrights

Whats the crack with copyrights on e-books?
Once its on the net or on CD has the author/originator got rights ?

Or is it just to much hassel for them to chase up?

Just wondering........

(Before I go in to bussines selling others stuff )

AFAIK the author of an e-book has the same copyright as they would if their book had been conventionally published.

If you buy a book aren't you allowed to sell it on second hand so I would guess that if you buy an a-book you must be allowed to sell that as well as long as you don't make copies.
