how does this game work? the cat is just going straight up in the air atm.

You must be holding space down for too long, the longer you hold it the steeper the angle the cat leaves at.

You need to hit left / right cursor keys to get up speed, then use space to get an elevation before you reach the line.

I was thinking back to my days on Daley Thompson's decathlon on the c64, perfect angle was always 45 degrees and it works well on this.

I think he is referring to the rapid rattling of the arrow keys required in order to get the bloke running! I must admit, people did look at me a bit funny as it sounded like I was suddenly doing 2000 words per minute!
