I know a bloke (funnily enough called mark) who was very much into super detailed models.
He would buy a standard Tamiya kit (2 of each) and modify it to put in all the extra detailing. So on a model with fixed doors and no engine....he would make the doors and boot open, detail the interior, make an engine, put in the plug leads etc.
The detail was awesome, you could not fault them. I don't think he builds any these days though
