Default Contemporary furniture

I am just buying a new place and I really want some 'different furniture'. Everything I have seen so far is very expensive, I don't mind investing resonable money in some nice pieces but £1000 for a coffee table is crazy.

Surely there are some websites or people that sell contemporary furniture for sensible prices.

Anyone know where to look?

Cheers

James

simple idea for a coffee table...
I have a few slightly buckled 17" alloys without tyres in the shed. Ill clean them up and get round bit of glass cut to use as tops. Add some wee clear rubber pads to stop rattling and instant "motosport" themed coffee tables!

Someone I know of has done the same as pictured here...

got a bit more space? how about a V8 coffee table?

following the car theme, a crankshaft uplighter....

Now I do like the V8 table.

So how much would one of those cost - guessing its a shagged out V8?

Yeah, down to the scrappy and have a look for a dead range-rover, SD1 etc etc, pay a fifty quid for the engine, take it to the shed, spend a long time stripping it bare and cleaning it, get down to your local glazing place and get them to cut a nice bit of glass for the top.
Shouldnt cost more than a hundred quid in total, just a fair bit of time getting it clean enough to put on the carpet!
Im not sure if Rover V8`s have bores large enough to accomodate wine-bottles though!
It would be quite heavy though.

Well once I get my big shed I might just do that as I've now got a few spare hours during the week (ie no job!)

He he, I have 3 Rover V8 blocks in my garage....Think I may do that with at least 1 anyway

(the others I may actually make them into something a bit more useful than furniture!! )

Last edited by ALi-B; 06 March 2004 at 03:37 PM. Reason: it gets rather sad that I can actually identify which car the engine parts belong to

How much do you reckon the V8 tables cost? £500, £750, £1000?
