Morpheous..amusing or worrying?
A Gatso camera near to home has not registered on my Geodesy since it was installed in late November. I reported it through the database in early February but still no recognition.
I decided to contact them and query this. On Monday of this week I left a message on their "We will call you back as soon as posssible" voicemail for database enquiries.
Heard nothing so emailed on Monday evening. Heard nothing so called this morning. Still voicemail, so hung on and got a friendly chappy in sales. This is the gist of the conversation:
Me: I have tried to contact you about a database issue ..(Explained issue).
Him: What is your serial number
Me: Gave number
Him: Ah yes, I see that you did contact the database with this siting on 8th February. We ought to have followed this up but haven't. We generally need to have more than one report to eliminate bogus or mistaken sightings.
Me: So mine was the first? I look forward to receiving the £50 cheque then. Thanks a lot but I am still concerned that it has taken so long to put this camera on the database after it having been reported albeit only once.
Him: Oh no Sir...You are by no means the first to have reported the camera. In fact the first siting was in December so I am afraid that you do not qualify for the £50.
Me: So that means that despite a number of reports you haven't updated your database ? I also have yet to hear of anyone receiving this £50 cheque..is it a con?
Him: It looks as if we have made an error Sir. We send out about £500 in rewards each week mainly to police officers or planners and suchlike as they are the first to know about the camera locations. We even get claims for cameras that haven't even been installed but are due in a couple of weeks or so!
Me : Do these mistakes happen often?
Him: Not with vigilant people like you Sir..Please keep up the good work.
Me: Goodbye.
To all you Geodesy dependants: Be Careful Out There!!

Hmmm bit of a self fulfilling prophecy this.
Camera Planner: Hmm, going on holiday next month, could do with some spending money. I know, I'll schedule 10 new cameras for fitting and let Geodesy know, that'll give me £500 spending money, yipee

Mine is hit and miss - most camera sites it picks up - some it doesnt - i.e. it never has recognised most of the proliferation of cameras around Wakefield........
As far as registering a new camera goes - this facility has never worked on my device......so would never get the chance of the £50 anyway....but its interesting that it seems a con anyway..... not really surprised.....
I dont think that I'll pay the £35 renewal...... afterall you virtually always get speed camera sign warnings anyway - so you'd have to really not be concentrating to be done by a Gatso these days
