Default iPOD for use in the car?

Does anyone use their iPOD in the car?

looking into the possibilities, and saw the iTRIP which broadcasts on FM, and wondered if anyone had an 1st hand experience of it.

regards,

greg

IIRC those FM transmitters are illegal here. Have a trawl around the ICE forum and I think there's a thread or two about using iPods in cars.

Thumbs up

You can buy a car connection kit for the IPOD for about £35 IIRC.

I have mine wired into the AUX port of my stereo and the power lead hard wired to the cigarette lighter. Quality is not the best i've heard, but if you play with the settings in iTunes then it helps.

A friend has this setup in his car, when he demo'd me on it, sounded quite well, basic Cherokee Jeep ICE though. Came through clear, you have 4 fm channels to choose from.

You can always go the cassette adaptor route. I think Alpine are begging to make head units with ipod integration in them.

When i experimented with it it was ok. I had to turn the volume on the stereo up a little bit (it was already almost at maximum on the iPod) to get it to a decent level. This may have been due to the specific frequency i was running it at though.

I'm sure with a little fettling i could get used to using it on a day-to-day basis. Ideal for longer journeys though, expecially if you have someone who can change tracks for you when you feel like deviating from your playlist...

I saw a proper kit the other week. Still kicking myslef over not saving the URL. It was properly fitted and acted as a CD changer, you could control the iPod using the remothe controls already fitted in a car and it was powered by the head unit. It looked brilliant.

Richard where did you get the kit to connect to your AUX input?

Angrynorth,

I got the cable kit from John Lewis (Not sure of the maker of the kit), but the kit included all types of connectors for various uses. The AUX connector was from Alpine.
