Default Stitched up by a window installer?? Anyone in building regs?

Had some windows fitted in June 2002. Recently tried to remortgage and solicitor has noticed we dont have a FENSA cert or building reg approval. Speak to the fitter (cash job) who says, ''yep Low E, 24mm, toughened below 800mm, K glass. Had a reputable co. out to check for k glass and guess what?? NOT K GLASS

Also possible problems with openings (although these can be changed easily - but damn sure its gonna be at the fitters expense).

Should we give him the opportunity to replace for K glass, at his expense and if we have no joy grass him up to FENSA or use that as a bargaining tool?

Are you *sure* they were fitted in June 2002?

Might it have perhaps been March 2002? It's easy to get a date out by a couple of months or so.

A little research on www.fensa.co.uk and it might make a world of difference as to which Building Regs requirements the windows have to comply with.

HTH

John.

ps - not condoning anything *cough* illegal *cough* some people's memory fades with time!

Just how did the reputable co. check for 'K' glass as the only way to tell is by splitting a double glazed unit.

how does the surveyor (or whoever) know when you had the windows replaced? i've just had a couple of windows replaced and this is the first time i've even heard of fensa or anything like that. surely if anyone asked i could just say it was done in 2001 or whenever?

Well you were quick enough to accept the cheap qoute for cash, if he cut corners you can only expect problems. Did you specify K glass ? Was it agreed upon ? Grassomg him up serves no purpose, imho
