How about an Olympus?
I bought an Olympus C-300 Zoom (3megapixel) and it is an excellent camera. Though I think it has been upgraded recently to an identical but 3.5 megapixel model. (C-350)
The Camedia software that comes with the camera is a doddle to use too.
Why not have a look at this website they may have plenty in your price bracket.

I have a Canon A70 which I think is marvellous. The videos (with sound) is something I find myself using all the time nowadays.
The A70 is still quit expensive - but you can get the A60 (almost identical but 2 MegaPixels rather than 3) for £99 from Amaazon.co.uk at the moment.
I never use the hires picture setting anyway (as pictures are too big and take up too much room) 2MP would be more than fine for most people I feel. At least for beginners like me.
