Over protective parents??
Have just planned to go and see my mates baby with my gf and our kids on Friday evening.
Get an email from my mate saying:
....its just that I ran it past Vick that your children may be coming,
she was worried that Lucia is still young and has not had any injections
etc, its just that we didn't want your kids round as they maybe carying a
cold etc.
Strikes me as being far too over protective?

Oh boy!!
She only needs to worry about things that she can do anything about. Providing your kids have had all their jabs there isn't much danger of them passing any of those diseases on to the baby. The parents can still give the baby anything they catch that is infectious such as colds, flu and so on. Not worth freaking about - it happens, wrap the kid in cotton wool now and it will catch every damn thing later in life as its imune system won't be used to any nasties

Have any of your kids actually got a cold though? If not then its well over the top, however if they have a cold or are getting over one then I wouldn't say she is doing anything over the top. I wouldnt take my son round to see his mates if he had a cold or they had a cold, as there is no point to deliberately exposing a child to cold germs that they will 99.9% most likely catch.

all parents are paranoid with the first one.
when the next one comes along, it's like, "well, don't expect any special treatment just coz you 13 hours old!"

Its her first but his second so I was expecting him to say, "come on don't be so silly"
Each to their own I suppose!
I've not noticed my kids are ill but as they go to school / nursery I expect they're harbouring some nasties but then so are most people.

actually depending how young the baby is they have a point. A few weeks after birth they advise mother and baby to stay inside and avoid people. After a few weeks it's ok.
If she is worried get her to check with her health visitor.

I can understand shes a bit paranoid about a first child. I was and still am very protective over my daughter who is 2 now and I'm still wary of where she goes and what she may come into contact with.
What I really can't stand is when the child has nothing more than a little cough and the parents fill them full of medicine and god knows what else. I think that does far more harm than good. I work on three levels 1. if shes OK in herself, shes OK. 2. If shes quiet or not eating or hot/sick once or twice, keep an eye on her and maybe a spoon of something for tempreture. 3. Sick more than 12 hours and generally pale and obviously ill off we go ASAP.

"Sick more than 12 hours.......... off we go ASAP"
lol - bit of a contradiction
Could be that they just dont want us to come over - but it was their idea in the first place! Why do I want to go and see another screaming brat - I've got 2 of my own already!!

As previously mentioned...if they wrap up the poor child in cotton wool they are asking for trouble. Anyway, whats all this fuss about ? I'm of the generation who caught every darn thing that came along (no jabs back then ) , Think I've had them all as did my kids, although its unpleasant, a bout of measels or mumps isn't exactly life threatening.
I have a brother who disinfects every surface in the house, guess who gets any nasty bug thats going whenever he goes on holiday ?
