eBay Scam - Somebody Has Copied My Auction
I'm currently have an auction running for a guitar on eBay (see here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...category=22966 ) and some ba$tard has gone and copied my auction and has posted a fraudulent auction here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=3701990626
I'm now receiving a load of e-mails from people who are saying that they were interested in buying my guitar, but are now scared that they're going to get caught up in some sort of fraud and so aren't going to bid
I've been looking for a way of contacting eBay to ask them to remove the fraudulent auction but can't find any e-mail address or phone number.
Has anybody has this trouble in the past, and if so, how did you go about contacting eBay?
Thanks!
Andy.

Have you tried calling the Police especially as you can prove you are the owner of the guitar with that serial number?
They must have an internet fraud dept that could contact ebay on your behalf?

I was hoping it would be a little simpler to be honest.
The amount of difficulty in trying to find a way of contacting eBay leads you to believe that they're not really interested in whether or not there's fraudulant activities going on...
There should be a much easier method of contacting them regarding matters such as these...
Thanks for the advice anyway!

Olly - thanks for that link!
I sent a message off to eBay and thankfully they removed the scam auction.
My auction's just ended and I managed to get a reasonable price so I'm happy!
What sort of a pillock leads such a sad life that they have to resort to scams to eran money?!

Well it's a damn sight easier to scam people than actually work for a living. Think about it:
1) £15 a month for internet connection
2) 5 mins to set up an e-bay ID
3) Copy and paste an auction that looks like it may raise a few quid
4) Wait for the winner to Pay Pal the funds through
5) Empty and close pay pal account
6) Repeat from step 2
Just hope E-bay have tracked him via his IP addy and are doing something about it

It's worth that much because it is a classic Gibson semi acoustic. Only a finite number were made so they just go up in value. And they mature with age. Think antiques or fine wines.

Suggestion:
- pull your own auction. You can always re-list the guitar afterwards. Anyone looking to bid now will buy elsewhere, but there will always be new bidders.
- is the duplicate linking to any of your pictures? Change the pics, put a big 'this is a fraudulent auction' banner across them.
- report the other auction to eBay, there is a link at the bottom of the auction page entitled 'Safe Harbour', which eventually links to the report form.

The guitar isn't mine - it's owned by a a family friend who isn't the best when it comes to computers and so he asked me to post the auction for him.
The guitar is supposedly worth £10k+ - why? I haven't the foggiest!
Rarity I guess!
For those of you who are into guitars, if it were a car, what would it be? (stupid question I know! )
The person who has purchased it is from Sweden and is yet to contact me. This could turn out to be an interesting one...
Thanks again for the suggestions!
