Can anyone tell me if Heathrow is still functioning OK in the current weather conditions.

I'm supposed to be flying out of there at midday tomorrow, but the number BA give out to check flight status information is just on permanent 'your call is important to us, please hold' (over an hour both times I've tried it so far). The websites are giving conflicting reports so I don't know what to think.

As I'm travelling down from Manchester I just want to know if there's major disruption s it may be sensible for me to move my flights in this case.

This country really does make life difficult sometimes.

Anyway any help would be most appreciated.

Regards,

tiggers.

Cheers Gary,

Problem I've got is that nearly every single plane between Manchester and Heathrow has been cancelled today - Manchester looks OK so I was wondering if Heathrow was having problems, but it seems it's a mystery.

Maybe have to try and get a train down to Heathrow if things don't improve.

Jeez - an inch of snow and the country is shafted.

I know some guys who work in heathrow....

The Hayez Squad

Seriously though, most flights cancelled - my 7.40 to Newcastle was grounded (and thank **** for that as NCL is 10 ft under in ly..snow!)

Edited to add: Forget telephone, use online services instead - it's updated quite regularly...

Cheers for that - I've emailed them Hayez boys to see if they can help me.

Normally I do use the online services, but Heathrow says they're cancelled whereas Manchester says they're flying and BA doesn't seem to know either way, still they all seem to say they're flying now.

Regards,

tiggers.

In my experience of flying as soon as one says it's cancelled, then it is cancelled - never seen it happen the other way round (but you may be lucky). It's usually due to delays in updating their systems. Another very neat trick (and I didn't tell you this) is to get the number of a corportate travel office (these firms who send their employees all over the place) and do an enquirey - they have direct access to the airport timing systems and you're not faced with a queue...

mart,

Yeah my father had an intersting experience on a little 18 seater plane in Denmark. Aborted the landing twice and then the pilot makes an announcement in Danish - 17 passengers panic, my Dad of course doesn't know what's happening.

Anyway turns out plane had low fuel and the runway was covered in ice - made the landing very 'interesting'. All the other passengers thought my father was Mr. Unflappable until they realised he was British and hadn't understood a word of the announcements

What a f**king **** up that was.

Left the house at 6am on Tursday morning - got out of Phoenix airport at 2am Saturday morning (UK time).

Plane from Manchester to Heathrow took 5 hours including a 3 hour refuelling stop at Luton (no I'm not kidding) so missed original flight from Heathrow. Plonked on Friday flight from Heathrow and was told my luggage would be automatically transferred.

Finally arrive at Phoenix and guess what - yep, my luggage is still at Heathrow - might arrive Sunday/Monday or maybe lost.

Have basically been fed a tissue of lies from start to finish which is the most annoying thing of all.

Anyone know what compensation I'm entitled to if they lose the luggage completely?

tiggers.

P.S. Despite all their protests about the weather Heathrow seemed to have less than half an inch of snow and by Friday it was all gone anyway. God knows what would happen if the UK ever got any really bad weather.

refuel at Luton??? It would have taken them more in fuel use to land and take-off again than going direct to Heathrow!!!
