Ive been looking for some new 17's and saw a set on a reputable website £50 cheaper than ive seen anywhere else, althought it wasnt on "their" website, it was on www.potn.com, who from what i can gather, just link to every1 else wesbite.

Rang up to order and they at first said the price was wrong and then after a couple of minutes said it was right

I rang back a few minutes later with my credit card at the ready and just before giving my credit card details, was told the price was wrong!!! WTF!!!

Because they confirmed at one point that they could do them at the advertised price, have we entered into a legally binding contract?

The sales guy is going to ring me back after speaking to his manager, can they back out?

I would imagine they haven't entered into any type of contract, as you were phoning to ask about the price and buy them. If you had bought them using an online system, then been told that the price was wrong that could be different.

When they phone back, tell them that if the price goes back up you won't buy them, and that you have printed a copy of their webpage to take to trading standards as proof of false advertising.

That might swing their view and let you have them at the lower price. Always worth being cheeky with them.

was the site a kind of price comparison site? if so sometimes they dont update correctly and prices on them are wrong so you wont have anything to stand on as the company themselves wernt advertising it at that price. its kinda like a mate tellin u u can get somat somewhere at a certain price and then when you get there its different.

All sorted

Big thanks to the all at www.topgear.co.uk

Sold me the wheels at the advertised price, as long as i bought the locking wheel nuts (which i would have anyway) and some chrome valves.

All in all, im pleased and its refreshing to see a company with top draw customer service

Big thanks to all at topgear.co.uk

POTN is simply a catalogue that sells advertising space to retailers, or, in the case of the website, charges a commission to retailers on sales arising through their website.

For future reference, from what I know legally, the company doesnt have to sell you the product even though they have advertised it at a certain price. In order to prevent the sale of the goods if they were priced wrong, they would have to take all their stock off the market place for a certain perod of time before selling it t the correct price. I think it also has something with invitation to treat and offer and acceptance (business law).
