St John's Wort is like any other antidepressant - it has to build up over several weeks before you see the effects. I took it for a while a few years ago, and it did help. If you're feeling that low, though, you probably ought to go see a doc and see what he says; all antidepressants can have side-effects and St John's Wort is no different in that respect.

Having taken it for years I would say that it can help with a small dose of the blues but anything more and you'll need to get proper help

I've tried it just to see what happened for 3 months: wasn't feeling down or low, just curious.

It did seem to lift my overall mood a little, seemed to take a week or so to have a noticeable effect.

Just to add - under NO circumstances should you take anti-depressants and St John's Wort at the same time!
