12 is the max, although so called professional drivers have been known to drive with more, I knew i parceline driver with 14, he kept his license as he was the only breadwinner in the house, keeps the family off benefits I suppose..

Would'nt expect this is the norm, 9 points & above time to take it easy..

generally accepted as 12 and you are banned (unless you have passed in the last x months in which case its 6 - dunno the exact details?)

oh, and if you are David Beckham you can carry on driving with 12 points because the press made you speed

A mate of mine still had his licence with 18 points on it as he was a market trader so they let him keep his licence.

His 18 points were:

4 x bald tyres @ 3 points each = 12

Driving without MOT = 3 points

Driving without insurance = 3 points

The van was a deathtrap and they should have flung the book at him. I'm pretty sure he was signing on at the time as well.

It's 6 points within 2 years of passing your test. Then you loose your license and have to take the whole lot again- theory, hazard perception etc. Plus it's an extended practical test.

12 for mere mortals and unlimited for Police and Mason (mentioned both as all police are masons, but not all masons are police).

this seems harsh. if he was stopped and received all the points to gether then it should have been 3 points for having bald tyres irrespective of how many he had.

i would question this of the local police. are you sure the policeman wasnt a rookie/probationer who has applied the RTA wrongly.

cheers

big sinky

yes it is 3 points per tyre but when going to court they only take into account the highest points awarded at one time, so that would only account for 3 points, i got done for speeding and two bald tyres whilst i had 9 points, after going to court the first time i went through a red light, took me to a total of 21, like i said, i drove like a **** 10-15 years ago

Notorious...your mate has got the allocation of penalty points wrong....

No MOT is a non-endorsable offence, and he could not have got 3 points for it.

No insurance is of course an endorsable offence, carried between 6 and 8 points, so he could not have got only 3 points for it.
