Got a voucher from John Lewis for £50 and thought about an Electric Razor. Are they any good these days? How close are they comapred to wet shave? What do I need to look out for. I hear the 'strip' style ones are better than the 'three head rotary' style ones.

Bought a Braun one (reduced from £130ish to aroundthe £50 mark) in boots about 2 months ago...
Was having the same dilemna as yourself and after your skin adjusts to dry shaving again.. after maybe 2 or 3 weeks (slight irritation and few minor plukes ) then all in all I would say the sahve is pretty close but not quite that of a good wet shave. 90% probably.
However with a bit more time & pressure (ie going over the same bit a few times) if your skin can deal with it, then it's pretty passable IMHO
Certainly better than they used to be though

I was given a new Braun one for Xmas. It takes some cartridges to sooth your skin whilst shaving.
There not as quick or close as a wet shave, but do get close enough if you spend the time.
I hate wet shaving with a vengance, so being able to shave whilst eating my breaky is an added bonus
I'd need a lot of convincing to pay anything over £100 for one. Like SiPie, I think my folks got mine reduced from Boots too.

I've always used an electric razor - I've just bought one of those Braun self cleaning ones (£65 from Comet) and it's great. It's not as close as a wet shave, but it's so much quicker and easier that I do shave more often than I would otherwise. On average I have less stubble.
