Right so let me get this straight - if you get convicted of speeding you are going to be paying compensation to victims of rape for example? Yeah that makes sense
The Government just get worse every day I hear of one of their new policies in the pipeline Who is the easiest person to target? The motorist! Rip off Britain every bloody time

UB - if you get a dodgy prawn in your sandwich, do you complain that that is political correctness gone mad? just wondered, cos so far there doesn't seem to be anything that can't be branded PC madness.
FWIW, i think this proposed tax is a joke too, but it's a revenue raising venture and nothing to do with being PC.

Oh and this will make a good one
What they going to do, sit and wait outside pubs and bars and nick everyone who comes out drunk and give them a nice fine?
*shakes head in amazement*
Other on-the-spot fines, such as being drunk in public... would also carry the extra charge.

This has to be the most blatant example yet, that the government sees the motorist as nothing more than a revenue generator to be exploited in an almost pathalogical manner.
It's so fekin immoral it's beyond belief. Vote the buggers out asap.

I am sure if the Police got shares in the fines they would be camped outside Pubs at kicking out time with the collection tin open instead of hiding on motorways bridges.
But maybe it is a good idea and any body mugged by a Gatao could apply as a victim of New Labour's stealth Taxes?

look the plod cant catch the rapist, the burgular, the graffiti artist, the wife beater, the car theives, the joy rider etc. But the motorist, nice n easy, just bring in a new law dreamt up by our beloved fuhrer his toniness and the reichfurhrer jabba the gut and we will have loads of money. Now if we give just a bit to a good cause, we will get away with it.
Please note, this is not a moan at the police but those who dream up this sh*t.
Problem is, we all moan and yet what do we do - do sod all.
NATIONAL STRIKE BY MOTORISTS, similar to the fuel aggro a few years back.
Work out how much you paid to the government is direct and indirect car taxes last year. And what did we get?

Couldn't agree less. It's Political Correctness that drives the government's entire policy agenda. It's the 'New' in New Labour, and they are losing the plot.
The Politically Correct hate the car and see the motorist as somebody who is in need of control. Remember, according to them we should all be travelling on (non-exsistant) public transport or bicycles.
Thus, those who 'insist' on driving will be hit in the pocket until they are bullied off the roads, either through costs or by having their licenses confiscated, whatever comes first.
Those caught committing the henious crime of exceeding the speed limit - even by just a few mph - will be criminalised and made an example of, as is clear from this new proposal.

3 points and a £60 quid fine!
But why would you pay cash compensation to victims of crime?
I can understand some of our taxes supporting counselling services etc. But cash compensation for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or just being unlucky! Seems a bit daft. If the Government want to reward bad luck - hey - pass me the forms!!!!

"Home Office minister Baroness Scotland told BBC News 24 that "a lot of people out there, if asked, would not mind paying an additional 5 or 10 pounds if it is going to go towards the victims of crime getting the sort of counselling, the help and wider support they need."
She added that telling the offender that he or she has a responsibility to "the victim or potential victim" of the crime is important. "
The last paragraph is simply unbelievable! So, if I speed at say 43 in a 40 zone, I have a responsibility to every victim of speeding drivers?
Whatever happened to being responsible for your own actions?
I am responsible for my own speeding, not for someone else driving without insurance / drunk etc.

Maybe i'm missing the point here.
Are we all saying that a victim fund is a completely bad idea?
Wouldn't anybody here benefit from it if they were unfortunate to be involved in an accident? Wouldn't that be a good thing?
Or are we saying that speeding isn't a *real* crime and ought to be exempt?
(Genuine questions, really).
Personally i think asking motorists to subsidise victims of non-road offences is where this is going wrong, but i'm not sure i follow the outrage at making motorists who commit offences contribute to a fund which might benefit innocent victims of hit and runs and so on.
Am i being stupid as usual?!
