My father had been allowed to buy a PDA for work. The maximum he is able to spend is £500, less would be better.

I have no idea what he should get. Does anyone recommend a make or model that he should go for.

What websites are best to buy from??

What the **** is a PDA?? Can you please enlighten us, then you may get a few more responses..

 

HP seem to be the best or at lease they where when i was looking, i understand the Dell Axim (i think) is also tasty.

Should get quite a good one for £500 with Bluetooth etc. Have a look here, could probably get a sat nav system too if you get one of the clearance bargains. I have an Ipaq, one of the first, have had it for about 3 years and its great. I keep wishing it would break so I could justify upgrading it to myself and get a bleetooth one.

it can be picked up for £162 direct from dell,

it has sd and compact flash slots, so a bluetooth card can be added,,, the downside is onlt 32mb ram,, but you can get the performace model with 64mb......

and the games are good too!!!!

Still more than happy with my Sony Clie (can't remember the model number, but sure there's a 70 in it). No software by Bill Gates, just good old friendly Palm OS. MP3 (OK, I'm using a memory stick), built in digi camera, flip/rotating screen, nice titanium case, mini qwerty keyboard if you want it, etc. Believe the latest version does bluetooth as well as a few other features), but I've been living with cabled USB or wireless via IR. With documents to go, it happily does basic word/excel docs and the like. Suits me fine, anyway

 

Dell Axim X5 or X3 .... no contest!

For £359 he can have the top of the range with the GPS navigation thrown in!!

Even the £173 incl. VAT and Del. can wipe the floor with £300 other makes!

If you want the badge get a HP or Sony or suchlike .... if you want one to do the job honestly and cheaply - DELL!!

Why pay more than you have to?

Thumbs up to Dell from me as well. Bought an X5 recently.

64Mb memory, 400MHz processor, SD and CF expansion slots for about half the price of HP etc.

There has to be a downside and there is. It is SLIGHTLY bulkier than some of the more expensive models, but we are talking millimeters and a few grams. I am more than happy to save £200 for this minor issue.
If I remember correctly, the X3 is slightly smaller, but doesn't have the expansion capacity of the X5.

Or have a look at the HP mid-range like the H2210 or H4150 - good performance, not as pricey as the big boys. HP 5550 rocks, all the bells and whistles !

500 quid should buy you just about anything you want.

I bought a Palm Tugsten and so far I rate it. They take a while to understand (and I have an electrical degree ); I'd suggest that your Dad goes for one that is supported either by his company or by friends who have something similar to speed up the learning curve.

I like the palm for its size (compare it to a Dell and its muchneater. HPs are a better size.

I bought my Tugsten for 300 quid 4 months ago, you cannow pick them up for 200 quid from PC World.

If you are wanting to do mainly simple stuff with a few clever applications then I would go for the Palm Tungsten T3 - you can get it from amazon online for a saving of around £40 over shop prices
