Me and the misses are thinking about moving out of london, been to see some nice new developments in Shinfield, but not knowing the area I wondered if anyone knows what its like out there.. Yeah I know it's fairly close to Reading and Reading isn't that nice, but this is on the other side of the M4.

cheers

Mark

No real problems.

Plenty of country side etc.

Couple of pubs that do food or very expensive at Loritan, which I think is where you are looking at.

You can get on the M4 at Junction 10 or eleven, would say about 6 and four miles.

I live in Shinfield and its ok! I take it your on about the new estate on the main road? I've recently moved back over here after living in other parts of Berks and Middx and its fairly quiet but close to most places that you need ....

Me and MrP1F have just moved to the Reading area and are looking at buying our first house in the next few months! Mainly in Spencer's Wood & Three Mile Cross as MrP1F works at J11 of the M4!

The only places we have been told not to touch are:

Whitley, Lower Earley, Earley, Tilehurst & Woodley.

We did look into Burghfield Common but the main road leading to it is awful and would take us longer to get anywhere!

I like it round here apart from the fact that we know no-one.

Good Luck and get in contact if you ever need anything answering etc.

Nothing wrong with Burghfield Common.

I never have a problem getting out.

Leave early.

The main problem we had was with starting work at 9am! The traffic piles up and we arn't morning people!

Saying that, we are in Chineham @ the mo so it's gonna be quicker but we are moving v soon! Fingers Crossed.

When I need to be in work for 9am (as MrsP1F says I work pretty much on the Junction 11 roundabout) I hit the spencers wood roundabout at about 8.20 - 8.30 and its stacked back down the A33. To my left I see all the traffic coming from Burghfield Common and its worse than on the A33.

That said, if you dont mind that or head towards Junction 12 then it seems a very nice place to live.

Simon.

Whitley..rough

Lower Earley....fine for what it is- housing estate.

Earley....lived there 30 years and have no plans to move. never been burgled, never worried about flash cars on the drive, quiet, expensive enough to keep out scum, half hour to london, 100 yards from the river.

Tilehurst...nice bits but more crap bits

Woodley...not that diffrent to Earley.

Remember Junction 11 is due for a re-vamp if I remeber correctly.

Will be a complete disarster for a period.

I think in addition they hope to have Park and Ride to the south of the junction.

Push bike out then !!!!!!!

Head for the villages west of Reading - Pangbourne, Goring, Streatley, Upper Basildon, Bradfield etc. all decent IMHO, east Reading stinks (literally with the Whitley whiff).

Whitley whiff on its way out.

Brand new sewage treatment well on its way to being built.

Will be the most modern in the world and no smell. !!!!!!

I'm with Dunk .... much, much nicer out at Pangbourne/Goring/ way ... Whitley is about as popular as the black hole of Calcutta!

Bramley/Sherfield are fine too! and cheaper!

Red face

pslewis agreed with me !!!
I take back everything I posted, Whitley is the place to be

Simple rule: I wouldn't live anywhere between the Thames & the M4, and between J12 & J10 M4

D

John, When does the new works go live ?

Shinfield's too close to Whitley, the scum from Whitley will just walk over and steal your stuff. Earley's OK - I lived there for 10 years - although Lower Earley's not so good. I'd look further afield if I was you, out into the boonies a bit.

"Shinfield is the other side of the M4 to Reading". It is? They must have moved it since I was last there

Dunk,

At the moment the new plant is about six months ahead of shedule.

Should start running later this year next year if all goes well.

The the old plant will be removed and the site developed to pay for the new plant.
