Not a lot to do in Whitby this time of year, or come to think of it @ anytime of the year! Only joking.
Nightlife is limited to say the least, theres enough pubs but only one nightclub and thats rubbish (a few of the pubs have late licenses). Plenty of decent eating establishments though - curry houses, thai, italian, english etc.
As much as it hurts me to say, your best bet is to stick to Scarborough - much more to do - plenty of nightlife & shops.
Mind you, either way, at least you'll be in the 'right' part of Yorkshire - best stay away from the West Riding!
Welcome to North Yorkshire.

Pubs, shops, nightclubs.......why do people travel to new and interesting places and then seek to do the same things they do in there own town? It's like when you're abroad and all the pubs serve English breakfast, big screen premiership matches and Eastenders every day. Are people so scared of trying anything new or out of the ordinary?
Try the great coastal walks (Whitby to Robin Hoods is good, with regular buses if you can't make it back), or even hire a MTB. I think the Grand Turk has gone now, but you could go for a trip out on the Endevour.

Would that be the replica endeavour with a perkins diesel engine and 10 orange buoys slung over its side - very realistic!! - just like capt. cook's version!!! might aswell go to sea on a trawler or coble, they all have the same effect of making you hurl.
