Sheepsplitter is a bit thick ... I always try to allow for that, however, in this case he is close to the truth ... we had Beagle and Environmentally tested it in our labs!

Cool
I don't know Colin Pillinger, but I know a number of the rest of the people who work for him. The Space Sciences department at Kent University (where I studied) all upped sticks and moved to the OU a couple of years ago.

carl: And if you knew anything about sarcasm you would not have made such a daft statement!
pslewis: I will not be rising to your bait today my good man. Enjoy trolling elsewhere.

Well I didn't see anything contentious in pslewis's post. It only went downhill when you joined.
pslewis: if I designed "fireworks" like you (and, when I was younger, I did go for a few interviews at AWE) I'd add some copper and whatnot so that it was a pretty colour when it went off. TBH I think it would also be a lot better if missiles looked like Tintin rockets. I love the cartoon strips of the 50s where all rockets look like V2s.

Electro/Mechanical Design Engineer.
Basically layout the pcbs and draw up the matalwork for switchmode power supplies and related guff.
i have been known to design parts of the power supplies as well, so theres also Electronics Engineer on my cv.
Also a trained and worked as a Calibration Engineer in the past, so theres that aswell.

Layout PCB's? What CAD do you use? When designing PCB's I use Mentor and PCAD ... Unigraphics for the 3D Solid Modelling Mechanics and Autocad for the simple 2D stuff

Hi Pete,
I use Accel PCAD 2001 for pcb's, i choose 2001 because its stand alone and on my laptop for working at home, and not server dongle based like a majority of the others. Not cheap thou'
AutoCad for metalwork, its mainly fabricated ally or mild steel chassis, covers, enclosures, so AutoCad is perfect for that.

That true I design door handles and stuff.
Iv been doing it for a week no and love every minuate of it.
I was so unhappy when I was a CAD operator for a speed camera company. (paid as a CAD monkey but worked as a designer for cheap Also generating CNC codes for a punch press, sat next to the welder and 120db machine for 4 months with no heating.)
Now using SolidWorks 2004 and very happy.
Thanks pslewis. without help and surpport from guys like you I would have give up design a year ago and done some boring office job. I want to play with fireworks but I dont think im good enough one day.
Hopefully you'll all get to use a door handle that iv designed. our company designed and made the handles on the QM2 ship (correct me if im wrong about the ship. well its the new on that was on the news)

Design Aluminium windows and Curtain wall systems.... well only just started as of 5th Jan but so far so good.
Going to be learning Solidworks 2004 to go alongside Microstation 8.1 which I currently use for 2D work. Although I believe we may be switching to AutoCAD new company policy

SolidWorks is the way to go for product design.
Ive used AutoCAD, MegaCAD, Solidworks and Pro-Engineer.
I think Pro-e is the hardest to use.
someone must beat 4 CAD packages.

Hi Peeps,
I am a Mechanical Design Engineer, I design Travelling Wave Tubes / Radar / ECM,EW systems and High Power Supplies (some 19" rack stylee) for aerospace / military & commercial.
I currently Use Mechanical Desktop 6 but I am looking to upgrade to Inventor or change to solidworks later this year.
Anyone used Inventor before ? I had a demo a while back and it looks Ok but not much more advanced and have a Solidworks demo later this month.
Cheers

It may be that where I work Solidworks is dropped in favour of Inventor on the basis of using one package throughout our whole group of companies. This means I may be learn both that and Solidworks until the crossover happens. The bloke I'm now working with has used solidworks for the past few years and say currently it is streets ahead of Inventor.

Used Solidworks since Uni and totally love it. its easy to use but after one year of not using it Im finding it slow to get back into it. Not looking good for my first week of my new job. Have not stopped thinking about drawing parts in 3D over the weekend.
