Amazon

Bought a DVD through Amazon a couple of months ago. Turns out it was actually from a third party supplier not Amazon (probably should have paid more attention when ordering but it had never occurred to me that Amazon did this kind of thing).
Needless to say the DVD didn't turn up. Sent messages to the supplier and Amazon. Amazon not interested and suggested I use their guarantee scheme which mau provide cover up to 60 days after the order. They suggested this yesterday - 62 days after the order was made!
The supplier has now said that Amazon did not pay them and won't send the DVD.
I know I should have paid more attention when ordering and chased up earlier but has anyone else experienced this kind of thing.
The money involved is insignificant but this means that either Amazon owe me a refund or the supplier is running a scam through Amazon.
I'm just surprised that an otherwise well respected company allows themselves to get involved in this kind of business. Is it really an earner for them?

Agreed... they'll back down, not worth it to them over a little DVD order.
Besides, it's not even like the 3rd party is claiming he ever dispatched so the quarrel is between Amazon and the other party, you should get a refund no questions asked imho

Unfortunately:
"Orders on the Amazon.co.uk Marketplace platform are strictly between
the buyer and a third-party seller. Amazon.co.uk is not directly
involved in these orders and is not an auctioneer or agent on behalf
of either the seller or buyer. Marketplace sellers should dispatch
goods directly to the customer within two working days of the order
being placed."
I have contacted Amazon to tell them that the seller says that they were not paid.

Not used as far as I am aware but the impression I get from Amazon is that they are saying that this is similar to Ebay and they are acting as a payment service like Paypal.
What bothers me most is that careless customers like myself are not expecting this kind of thing from a company like Amazon. It honestly didn't occur to me that I was buying from anyone other than Amazon (admittedly this is probably my fault).
Their reaction so far is also rather disturbing for such a big name. They either have an operational issue or a fraudulent seller. Either way, they don't seem interested in pursuing the matter.
I suppose I will just have to vote with my feet! Shame really.

Simon,
Good luck with it, I bought a used book from a marketplace seller and waited about 5 weeks for it, it did turn up in the end but I was ready to pursue it. The problems you have with Amazon dont surprise me, them and many other 'online' outfits are great when everything runs smoothly, have a problem and you just cant easily get it resolved because you cant speak to a 'real' person.
good luck
Gary

Juat got a mail from Amazon saying that the offending seller has been removed from their site.
I've cancelled my outstanding orders and will not use Amazon again.
Why on earth do they allow this kind of thing? They are losing regular cutomers every time this happens.
