Looking to take my first holiday ever in scotland, want to stay near a loch in the highlands or somwhere breath taking does anyone know of, or can recommend somewhere to stay bearing in mind i have a wife and three dogs, looked at all the usual web sites but they want silly money for accomodation. I know there are people out there that rent privately as do my own family in exmoor, fancy a change also a web address would help.

Yes, 2nd one looks better than the log cabins. While the log cabins were fine for our purposes (30th birthday pi$$-up), they were fairly basic & spartan.
The cottage looks nice.
Strontian area is quite remote though....depends on what you want to do all week and what stuff you are into. You won't find swimming pools or speedboats nearby for example....plenty of hills to walk on though!

Strontian ?
What a great place. Stayed there one night (at a hotel) when the ferry over to Mull was cancelled (weather). Never been so drunk in my life but the next moring having a wake up walk around the loch was truely stunning
Craobh Haven (just south of Oban) is a really nice place to stop. Pretty much all the houses there are holiday lets. Some cracking roads , lots of great walking to be had, lots of stuff like standing stones to visit. You would have to look into whether they take more than one dog but put in "Craobh Haven" into Google and you get loads of holiday lets sites up for the various properties.
We stayed for a week and was the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. Pure bliss.

Yeah, south of Oban is great too - fab campsite just south of Oban on the coast. Great & stunning views as you look out of the tent as the campsite is on a slope overlooking the sea....
The views really are like that photo!
You can also get the ferry over to Mull from Oban for a daytrip....good pubs in Oban too - got well pi$hed there as well as in Strontian...

Hi mate, my parent's have a cottage in Kinlochewe which is near Loch Maree - often described as the most beautiful Loch in Britain. Unfortunately they would not allow 3 dogs (1, maybe 2), so this post doesn't really help you much (sorry!), but I thought you might be interested in seeing some pictures of the Loch as there are plenty of other places which may allow the dogs.

http://www.torridon-mountains.com/ - Accomodation in the area (Loch Duich is my folk's).
It's lovely area, if the weather's nice ! I lived there for 14 years.

A quick google for "holiday cottages that allow 3 dogs" brings up:
http://www.wildernesscottages.co.uk/extras/woof.asp
Although some appear to be a bit on the large side (e.g. sleep 14 !)
