No, not the oil paintings, but the voluntary Police Force.

Was approached by two of these bods, recruiting, the other night!

Well when i say recruiting, talking to me and a neighbour outside a boozer.
and it really got me thinking about how great it would be to give something back to the community.

Are there any "specials" on here, and if so, what are your experiences like???

BB

I was thinking about it when I was still working in IT, but decided that if I was going to do it I was going to do it totally!

Don't worry about him, he's gone!!!

I used to knock about with a guy who joined the specials. It caused him to lose most of his mates. We would all go out on bikes, and as you do, speed like craxy everywhere. When he joined the specials, no-one trusted him 'not to be on duty' when he was with us.

It's a shame really, as he was just putting something back into society. He now works for the fire brigade, so he is doing the world a service, without losing mates because of it.

I have lost a few friends because of joining the Met Police, however if they were that shallow they were not true friends, anyway I have made some great friends through it who see me as me, regardsless of what job I do!

True, I have a really good mate who I met through a car club. He's a copper, and loves nothing better than going out at the weekend sorting out the drunk and aggro prats who spoil everyone else's nights. Then during the week he works on drug dealers, keeping scum of the streets.

Unfortunately many people see the bad side of the police (it only takes a couple of rotten apples in a barrel), and this shapes everyone else's images.

Most full time officers in London hate them!!! Boys scouts who dont know what to do. better to spend the money on a real officer.

I did a stint when I was 20-21 when I wanted to be a copper. TBH the specials are made of:

a: Normal people who want to be coppers, doing a stint in the specials shows commitment.

b: W@nkers with nothing better to do

c: Pr1cks who are on a power trip, usually under 5'5 and bullied in school.

Mix c with b and its a nasty mix.

All IMO of course

Luke, they only hate them because they now get less overtime!!!

and, i'm guessing here, but i think they would actually take more of an interest in the job, due to them volunteering and getting enjoyment from that, instead of just a mechanism to make money/live etc....

i think its highy commendable.

Come on lets cut the PC krap..

have a look at most of these walking around... Its amazing in London..you dont get to see many ethnic officers But most of the specials are ethnic. (An observation not opinion) And they all look like they would panic and run if they had to do anything... God knows what they would do if they came across a major street fight??? better to pay for a proper officer. Most in london just give out parking tickets.

Talking

My mates a special constable or hobby bobby as we call him.

He got refused due to him being too young and he had a fixed penalty for his fog lights so hes kinda using it as a stepping stone into the 'real' police.

Its not too bad as hee knows when the police are out and about and the places they are going to be hiding.

... Its amazing in London
what percentage of your posts start with this.

London is cosmopolitan and has a high turnover of people, you'd be lucky to see the same person twice in a year on the streets, i'm sure.

anyway, i'm talking about doing this in my small town, where there is a community and people do actually get on very well most of the time.
i was only in the high street pub the other day with a neighbour
(second time in 2 years i've been in there) and couldn't get out with people buying drinks left right and centre, i felt like i'd know most of them for ages, when in fact i'd never seen them before!!

shut up luke. i'm not argueing, its new years eve!!

LOL
