Good to see a Knighthood for TBL. In case you don't know, he was born in London, went on to develop HTML, HTTP and the first browser (and therefore the World Wide Web) and now heads the W3C at MIT.
A very worthy receipient IMHO, there wouldn't be a Scoobynet without him
Note: This is not the thread to debate awards to other persons or teams...

i think you might find that Marc Andreessen developed the first ever browser, mosaic. TBL did play his part in the development of the net and html however he didnt make the first browser.

NCSA Mosaic was the first browser to support graphics, but TBL's WorldWideWeb on his NeXT was the first HTML parsing browser.
Mosaic is obviously what most people used, and was the first in the generation of "multimedia" web browsers. Marc Andreessen and others went on to develop Netscape and the rest is history...

I was just trying to clarify the point that TBL took all of the ideas around at the time, sat down, fitted them all together and wrote a solution: HTTP, HTML and HTML parsing. Some people confuse the WWW with the Internet and aren't sure what Tim did or that he did it alone.
Mosaic was a huge step forward in its own right but followed Tim's work, that's all I was trying to say (probably poorly as usual)

i was just clarifying the point of who made the first browser, although what you had said about TBL is correct, he didnt in fact make the first browser. But he did develop the www, http, html as we know it, I only know as i have just written a paper which got me a distinction on the history and development of ecommerce, i wouldnt have had a clue 6 months ago, even though i have worked in ecommerce for over 5 years lol
