Santa bought me an MP3 player, which is nice. But, I no nothing about MP3 technology or websites. Can someone set me on the right track? [no pun intended]

iTunes is all you need - you can download it from here: http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/download/

If you are talking about general pop/rock music etc, by established artists then you won't find any.
If you want to obtain illegal copies of tracks then you'll need to get something like Kazaa lite, which is a peer to peer program that links to shared folders on other peoples computers around the world.
Be warned though, the music industry is coming down heavy on illegal MP3 collectors and many people in America have been sued.
