Congratulations to JudgeJules and excelent topic choice
As requested i've posted entry and this thread.
Closing date i think 15th January 04?
Rules are
1. No image will be greater than 800 pixels along its longest side.
2. Image overall will not exceed 120kb.
3. Image must have been taken within the period outlined (i.e. no old photos). E.g. if the competition runs for two weeks from the 1st Decemeber, then the photo must have been taken between 1st Dec to the 14th inclusive.
4. Each submitter can change their posted image at any time (using edit function).
5. Maximum of two (2) images per submitter, per competition.
6. Image must be hosted so that it appears correctly in the competition thread and must remain so for the period of the competition including voting. Any images that do not appear correctly will have their posts removed by the moderators (maybe ?).
7. Image must be titled but not on the image itself. I.e. some bold text naming the image should be posted at the same time as the image itself. In addition, any details of the image itself should also be posted (this is a learning exercise after all). E.g. EXIF data or maybe just aperture, shutter speed, equipment used.
8. There will be no posts in the competition thread other than those for the posting of competition images. All discussion should be held in other threads. Moderators will enforce this
9. Judges decision is final.
10. Images will meet the requirements of the ScoobyNet T&Cs
Good luck all
Si

My first entry is now up
Seems a bit quiet this time round - I guess normal people have friends to go out drinking with this week
Hands up who's asked Santa to bring a camera on Thursday

I think a few of us had decided to do water, was going to go down this morning early to take a picture of this bridge over water in the woods but the ice and snow melted before I got up.
Somebody pray for another cold night for me.

Andy,
I looked at it yesterday morning at work and then replied this morning. The pic was active all the time but then I suppose it may have been cached.
I remember when I was at school I did a simlar picture for a project. The subject was food so I took pictures of a variety of fruit with water. Some under water, some with water running over them (like a fountain), some with just water sprayed on them with a spray. I got some decent pictures.
Saying that, the best bit was eating all the fruit after wards

Good to see some creative pics already, must get my thinking cap on for an original idea. Found an old piccy from a couple of years back so I cant enter it in the competition but I thought Id share with you all anyway.
Taken with my Nikon F50 with a second or two shutter speed and the zoom taken from one end to the other. Comments happily recieved as Im a complete novice and after buying the camera a few years back am going to try to learn to use it properly.

Nice - I like zooooooomed shots, it's an under-used effect IMHO.
Suggestions:
- try getting a little closer, it would be nice to see more car and fewer trees. (Did you frame it with the lens at its longest and then zoom out?)
- is your zoom ring a bit sticky? It looks as though there are a few discrete steps rather than a completely smooth zoom from one end to the other. Getting equipment cleaned and serviced is, in my experience, a fairly inexpensive and painless operation.
- did you use flash at all? The number plate seems rather too conspicuous, I'm wondering whether it caught the flash.
- tripod?
Quick reminder: competition closes on 15th, get those cameras out

Just put an entry up
not very good, but its a start, im still experimenting with the different shutter speeds etc
BTW for you pro's is it normal to take a *lot* of pictures to begin with of the same subject
Steve
Any advice would be welcome, Canon Powershot A60

Not sure about the pros, but - with due apologies for the size of the image (which I think is justified, for comic effect ) - does this answer your question?

Thanks for the comments guys.
Andy, I didnt use flash, but it was VERY sunny that day. Zoom ring isnt sticky, but as youd guessed there was not a tripod present, so i was trying to hold the camera very still and turn the zoom at the same time (not very easy!)
Ive just chucked a photo into the competition, its inspired by MartinM's OZ Racing, but im starting to feel limited with my digital equipment(Kodak DX4900) as its not at its best(if it has one) at very low light, still itll do as a 'snappy' type camera.

Here's a zooooom image that some of you may have seen before - it's Tommi's car at the WRGB2003 service area at Felindre - my flash batteries had died and I was forced to think about non-flash photography in relative darkness. Shame the photo comp rules are that you have to take the image during the competition, or else it would have been one of my submissions

I'm really impressed with the pictures I've seen. I don't really know that much about photography so are there any good websites or magazines / books you would suggest so I can learn more .
Keep up the good work as its inspiring me !
