New Ground Zero design unveiled
A new design for the building to replace the World Trade Center has been unveiled in New York.
The Freedom Tower will be the world's tallest structure.
The cornerstone of the new development will be the Freedom Tower - 1776 feet (541.4 metres) tall, to commemorate the date of the start of the American War of Independence.
The leaseholder of the WTC, controversial property developer Larry Silverstein, brought in a second team of architects, having complained there was not enough office space in Libeskind's winning design.
The BBC's Jane Standley in New York says the public rows and the amendment of the design which won the international competition to rebuild the WTC have left many New Yorkers disillusioned with the project.
She says they are asking why there was ever a design competition in the first place.
The new building is to have 70 storeys of office space, funded using insurance payments from the Twin Towers.
There will be restaurants on the 71st and 72nd floors and a viewing platform on the 73rd.

An unoccupied section supporting television antennae will push the tower to its final height as the world's tallest structure.
Maybe they should put a McDonalds fly-thru the 69th floor
Chip.

Yep, move on. No good pondering over these things. What happened was bad but we cant keep dwelling on that.
After all. Laughter is the best medicine!

Freedom tower, oh dear! could have come up with a bit of a better name TBH. Do agree it is time to move on, sad as it was, it's time to get on with life and stop going on and on and on and on about it.

Freedom Tower?
From a country that (indefinitely) imprisons people without charge or legal representation in Guantanamo Bay.
From a country that allows the FBI to snoop BIG TIME on it's own citizens (and makes disclosure of this snooping an offense).
From a country that wants to know everything, even down to your credit card details, before you can fly in (from outside) to spend money at Disneyland.
From a country that thinks it can invade any country in the world on the grounds of "it's absolute right to protect it's own national security"
...strange choice of name for a new building?

73 stories isnt that high
Empire State Building is 96 (IIRC) to the top bit viewing area, but then you can go up a few more flights of stairs
Stratosphere in Vegas is 112 Stories high, and is 1176 feet
I agree that they do need to rebuild something in ground zero, to replace all the original office space and 50,000 people that worked there
