Taboo Words
#1
I was thinking the other day about words that we are no longer 'allowed' to say, for PC reasons for example. One example, has been listed and slated many times on this board, so I won't mention it.
Are there any words which you have used since childhood/all your life that are now taboo or frowned upon?

Golly-wog - My sister had one when she was 5
"coloured" people. Really not sure how the heck we're supposed to describe someone with dark skin now. Do we need to give full details of country and town of birth? Don't even think were allowed to say "white man", lol. Pathetic.
Durex - the universal word for a johnny bag, lol, now replaced with "condom" which I think is a fowl word.
More to come (pardon the pun)

I can't believe anyone would have a problem with black board. Its a) black (like it or not it IS black) b) a board (like it or not it IS a board). Why don't we just rename an Orange (the fruit) to spherical segmented fruit of a sweet citric nature to keep people with jaundice or too much fake tan happy

That is the problem though - no-one has a problem with these terms, except for the limp-wristed liberals who waste their whole lives worrying about what things may upset others. The whole PC brigade should be lined up against a wall and shot.

Calling someone who is 4ft "vertically challenged" is more politically incorrect than calling them short. Short is what they are, while calling them vertically challenged turns them into a victim because of their short stature. The word "challenged" implies that life is a struggle, and that you'd be better off with out the challenge.
In other words, "vertically challenged" implies that the person must have difficulties which they find challenging and need to overcome, whereas "short" describes exactly what they are, without prejudgement of their situation.

We used to call each other mongels, spazzies and joey's when we were at school.
Still use the terms at work, which seems to surprise my colleagues

lightning, occasionally someone at my son's school calls him Mongoloid.
He's Mongolian.
If he loses his temper over it and does something drastic, let's just say I won't be disciplining him very seriously.
