and have got to admit it was tops. Clear road, no HGV's, no (obvious) GATSO's. The only problem I did experience was the numpty in a Chrysler Voyager who drop his change all over the floor at the toll itself
I know this now means that the UK is gonna be on the slippery rope where there'll be more and more of these things. However I believe it was a small price to pay to by-pass the joke that is the M6 between J5 and J10.
If and when I do return to that part of the world (not very often to be honest) I'm will definately use it again.

Please tell me that road was empty...
Then it would mean it would be a failure...the company would go bust. The government will open it as a normal road and will learn it's "lesson" that you can't go nicking more money off motorists and forget the idea of toll roads ........
....Dream on

Ali,
You'll be relieved to know it was quite empty and seemed to be full of rep types, except for me who had enjoyed a couple of days up in the Lake District
There was a very multi-coloured ML Merc with blue flashing lights travelling North, but he seemed to be on a 'jolly'. However, what I did find strange was the number of people stood on the bridges crossing the road watching the traffic. Is there nothing else to do up there except watching horseless carriages

What is it with Plod in the Midlands??
You go for ages not seeing a proper Traffic car (except "cruises"). But when they open a new road they're like flies on a fresh crap.
Same thing happened when the Dudley By-pass opened...they were hovering round it like flies. 12 months later, they get bored and buzz off. Now everyone blasts down there at 60+ and no-one gets caught

I used a toll road in the States. They gave you a ticket at your start point which you handed over at your turn off point, so they could work out what you owed.
Time over distance = Speed.
I "arrived" 25 mins early
Lady in the toll booth said she had to fine me
I wangled my way out of it by saying I was on my way to the airport and was late for my plane home, never coming back to the States etc etc etc....
She lifted the barrier muttering something about putting the ticket in the machine in 20 mins
I wondered why everyone was sticking to the limit when there wasn't a copper in sight
Wonder if they'll adopt that system, and free up the police to do some "proper coppering"
Chris

SCOOBY TOWERS,
luckily, the M6Toll is designed so that you only pass though ONE toll booth on your paid-for journey.
Thus no documentary timed evidence that way, although plod with laser is a very close second

Same thing Essex opened the new A130 and the Police had to set up a special court to deal with the people going over a Ton. How they thought this was dangerous i don't know straight clear road no junctions and lightly traffic'd. Oh yes forgot the Police get a share of the profits.

Boomer,
IIRC the reason for the ticket system in the states was multiple junctions, and some "on ramps only" junctions being unmaned.
Hope they don't add any more junctions to the M6 bypass

The new M6 road is empty NOW, but it won't be soon when people start using it. Then the normal M6 will be less congested, so they'll then put the prices up on the relief road to keep it less busy etc. etc. and round and round we go!
