Unlocking Nokia 8310

I have a nokia 8310 that I used to use on T-Mobile. I havent used this phone for about 6 months and I want to give it to my dad. He uses BT Cellnet (o2) pay-as-you-go but when I put his sim card in the 8310 it says phone blocked. Is there anyway of enabling the phone to accept his sim ?
