I'm far from an expert but see quite a few through work and while the picture is just about OK the reliability has been questionable. Can't say if this applies to all makes and models but when they fail out of warranty they are usually beyond economic repair. Last quote I got to repair a 42 inch screen was £3000 and I've seen several, from not that big a sample, fail with the same problem. Maybe we've just been unlucky.

Expensive per inch to buy
If the pixel goes then it's gone
Needs careful handling with static images
Shows up the low bitrates on some Sky channels (movies are quite good)
DVDs come up very good if the source is OK - player and disk
Comes in bigger sizes than 36" CRT limit
Smaller footprint if hung off wall
Allows vast array of inputs
Main players - Pioneer, Panasonic, Fujitsu
Mid-range players - Hitachi, Sony, Philips
Low-end - LG, Sanyo
Now beginning to see larger LCD screens arriving which have their own + & -
I suspect they may become the next big thing and are well worth looking at in comparison
Personally I went from a 36" Philips CRT to a 43" Pioneer plasma
as it was the best choice IMO at the time. Still very happy with it and it does have a future use a bedroom display when the next great leap forward happens.
