Sainsburys are selling DVD recorders for £199.99 'Micro Esperjo' or summat?!
Has anybody bought one, or know anyone else who has. I've heard reports saying they work really well, but it would be good to get a little more info before taking the plunge.
Cheers.

I have a player already. It's the recording bit that I'm interested in. I like the idea of getting away from VHS tape for a number of reasons.
Anyone??

That logic's bollocks IMHO.
I bought my Mum a DVD player for £40 from Safeway over a year ago and it's been faultless. OK it's not the quality of a £300 Pioneer, but it was only £40 FFS.
Some folk wouldn't see a bargain if it fell out the sky and landed on their head.
I can't comment on the DVD writer, but try one and if it turns out to be cr@p take it back for a refund.

It depends who you are comparing. Comets, Curries, Dixons etc .. are no better than Sainsbury's.
In fact I would go as far to say that Sainsbury's actually understands what customer service means. If anything is wrong, they exchange it. If you have a problem, they immediately get someone to help you.

Ok, a bit of research reveals that these are badged as Mico and are actually the Philips dvd-r70 in disguise. The format is DVD-RW which is the friendliest of the formats - you should be able to play back on a PC and the media is much cheaper than DVD-RAM.
It's tempting although I admit I don't really need one. The thing is I know that if I go and look at it I'll buy it. Maybe better to just forget the whole thing.

You sure it's DVD-R ? Am almost certain Philips has always been DVD+R .. Philips went with their own system ( they were the 1st out and were defo. DVD+R then ). Panasonic etc. are DVD-R hence the format war that was mentioned .
IMHO go for a Panasonic . Does 6Hrs LP on 1 side of disc ..Does DVD-RAM also ..Videoplus .. Quality is excellent . £320 approx

The Panasonic at £249 is the way to go IMO
Philips are flooding the market to try and gain their format as the leading one and they may win ..... but I doubt it - Philips quality isn't a patch on Panasonic
I jumped in bed with DVD-R - I have been known to jump the wrong way in the past however!!

At least sainsburys won't pressure you into taking out the extended guarantee, unlike those commision hungry t$%£s at curries/comet and the likes.

we just got the Philips dvd-r70 from richer sounds.
top quality player and can't fault the recording quality.
well worth it as our vcr had just given up the ghost anyway.
it defo uses the + format.

I think dvd+r is here to stay, a lot of newer rewriters for pc are going down the duel format road, apparently dvd+r is better quality and more reliable, although not quite as common, and the disks are slightly more expensive, but were only talking a few pence between them.

I'm just waiting for you lot to fight it out in the format wars and pay for the developing/tooling up costs. Then when the price has plummeted, and it will(just look at digital camera's today),i'll come along and get a top quality item at rock bottom prices.
I learnt this from..............
pslewis.......pity he doesn't take his own advice..
