PSNI/RUC

Admittedly, this is a fair way off (Don't get your hopes up just yet Tango/Spelham ) but I am interested in joining the PSNI.
Does anyone have any insight to the service, or can give some advice?
Thanks in advance.

Damian,
Unfortunately your going to have to wait until March 04 until the next recruitment phase, be warned its a long process, unlike English forces the process takes any thing up to a year and it could cost you a fair bit if your gonna be flying over for the tests.
The Process goes a bit like this: Initial test, Role Plays, Medical, Security Vetting, Fitness and last but least the Pool of Applicants, this is the controversial aspect of the process, its done on a 50/50 basis of Catholic and Others this includes ethnic minorities, Protestants (Oh and it doesn't go by your religion, just your community backround)
The recruitment is managed by an outside firm called Consensia Partnership, can't make a clicky link but the web address is
http://www.selectnip.org/
Hope this helps, don't beleive all the crap of the website, you'd need to speak to some peeps that are actually doing the job to find out if it'd be worth it.
On a personal note, I'm in the pool of applicants for the third time now and it's so annoying getting rejected just because of were you live/religion and I'm seriously debating going to Strathclyde or the Met, why would you wanna join the PSNI?
All the best and good luck to you if you go ahead with it.
Mark

@ Damian, As far as I'm aware because you aren't from Northern Ireland you'll go into the Others/Protestants catagory, they've no real way in telling your community backround because your from england.
Discriminated against?, in the Police Service of Northern Ireland, surely your joking, lol

why the PSNI? from what I hear lots are leaving either through redundancy or voluntarily.
anyway, good luck if you apply. Things have changed alot in N.I., you don't need buster gonads to be a cop here anymore.
If you've got training, what about Iraq? IIRC the former Asst. Chief Conts. of PSNI is in charge of law and order in Basra

Interesting you should say that I would be classified as 'other' if you like.
Although I live in London, a large proportion of my family are Catholic. It it cos I don't live on the Falls?!?
