Hello
I have been asked to find a friends "real" mother. They were adopted a long time ago (late 1960's).
They have their Mother's name, and original district of either adoption or birth and that's it! They have requested some more information on the case which can take 3 or 4 months, but will probably not divulge any more information.
So far I have thought of going to BT.com and getting a list of all people with the same surname in the area (which only returned 20 or so), but that relies on her not getting married or having a male relative still living in the same area.
Any other suggestions? Any websites with online access to birth / marriage records etc..?
Thanks for your help.
Steve.

might sound stupid, but have you tried a 10 second search on FriendsReunited?
If you've never been on it, try the Name Search box on the left side

Steve,
A friend of mines brother disappeared 5 years ago and has never been traced. She thinks one og the agencies who were trying to trace him did so but that he told them he didnt want to get in contact.
I'll email her and ask what they did to try and find out. Her Dad is a copper and tried alternative ways of finding him as they thought he would have a criminal record, all to no avail.
I'll let you know what she says.
Chris

"Salvation Army - they check over 200 countries. You pay a charge before they start searching and it takes a while but the search is very thorough.
National Missing Persons - I don't have a phone number but the address is:
NMPH
PO Box 28908
London
SW14 7ZU
I am sure you can get their phone number from internet though.
The lady we deal with is called Jude. She's great"

Chris: Thank you for the information. I will have a chat with them.
Jjones: I've done that, got 24 matches, but it assumes that the person is still using their maiden name over 30 years later...

My friends dad also has contacts in the police, DSS and customs which have also drawn a blank.
If someone is determined enough they wont be found then they wont but if its a case of adoption I reckon the chances are much higher

I have to mention that the electoral role is only complete up to 2000. From 2001, due to the data protection act, you can 'opt-out' and not have your details shown up on these searches.
