they check scoobynet for insurance fraud ie non declared mods decat etc & police check for anything that they can meets/drives etc they do not like to be unaware of!!!
Dunk well done then m8 put your reg on with pride chap!!
the police have been seen to taking note of scoobynet stickers on cars with a view to find out who organised the meet we were on. "we should be informed of these meets" yeah great as if they would let us if they were aware of our plans!! ( or there would be camera vans everywhere!)
And if we all put our regs on the pics after such a meet we would all get a visit!!!

Do people do this when they go shopping, too?
..seriously - its an attempt to stop the "voyeurs" (sp?) looking at the site and being able to use known reg plates on ringed/stolen/dodgy cars....

Also, because if someone wanted to cause trouble they could get people phone the police and report you for alleged stuff. Just avoids agro, and it takes less than 5secs to blank a plate...

Well, yes - but if you want to find a legitimate number for, say, a green MY97 Impreza, then you could spend a lot of time standing staring at cars that go past in the street, or just a few minutes trawling through the Members' Gallery here on SN.
If someone wants to clone my car, they have to see it for real, which means travelling to the area in which I live and spotting it outside my garage. If I didn't blank the plate, that same someone could clone my car from the comfort of their sofa at the other end of the country.
Why make it easier for them?

yes, a million times more likely. next question.
Also people that nick cars to order can get an address easily from a reg plate, why not make it harder for them and dont post your reg plate simple..

You wouldn't post your work email address, postal address and mobile on a public forum, best to keep everything as anonymous as possible I reckon. You never know who is watching. Especially seems lots of people have, er, well spent money on their pride and joy, which may or may not affect their warranty - think the largest scooby community on the web isnt' read by Subaru UK? Or Japan for that matter? Or even the Police!!

Surely, if someone wants to blank out their plate they can, those who don't want to don't, does it matter?
You asked a simple question and got as simple reply.
I personally blank mine out, and it does no harm to anyone else.

Never really understood all the cloak & dagger number plate concealment tactics. If I wanted a clone plate for a Subaru where might I go first ? How about www.subaru.co.uk, you don't even need to squint at the pic they state them in text.
There has to be a muppet on here whose user name is their reg plate & they've blanked out the plate on their car, please find it I could do with a laugh.

One thought is that it might help stop thieves targetting particular cars. If you post your exact location and spec along with a photo displaying the full plate, anyone who wants to steal a car to order (rather than a car they might chance upon in the street) knows exactly where to go looking.
Ok, they could get a list of owners from a dodgy contact at the DVLA, but a pic with a plate and a spec list matches the two together.
Personally, I'm very paranoid so if I had a car worth stealing, I'd probably blank out the plate.
