Radio Security Code - best way to get one
#1
I recently had to take the battery out of a Omega, so now the radio/cd player has reverted to locked.
Unfortunately, the previous owner did not supply the radio code and I doubt they can remember it now.
What is the best way to sort this out?

AFAIK, you may need to get a serial no. from the head unit and ask a dealer to get a code for you.
Happened to a mate of mine a while back in an XR2i, to stop the stereo getting nicked, he riveted it into the car - had to remove the dashboard to get it out!

Thank you for the replies.
It is a factory fit job, so I guess I'll ask the local GM dealer.
I thought maybe there was a cheaper way to do it, as I've heard doing it through the main dealer is a bit pricey.

I had to get one for a citroen.
The first time i popped in I spoke to one of the salesman as he was the only person around. He told me I would need to produce the V5 to prove I owned the car which was fair enough and said there would be a £5 fee as that is what Citroen charged them for handing them out.
Popped in a week a later and this time spoke to the spares guy and all he wanted was the registration number of the car and looked it up on the computer and gave it to me for free. I'm guessing the salesman would have popped off to his office pretended to be on the phone while looking it up on the computer and then pocketed the £5.00.

Different manufacturers have different criteria. Fiat wont do anything without a copy of the V5 (set in stone) AND even if the code isnt right, tough, no refund.
Depending on the stereo, you can sometimes do this via text message/email/over the phone.
Peugeot/Rover/Blaupunkt can be done over the phone alot of the time.
My first call is too ring the dealer who:-
a) Supplied the car new (ask them if its on their database, be polite, they dont HAVE to tell you)
b) Any dealer that has serviced it, they may have had to disconnect the battery at some point and may have the code logged
Sometimes the radio needs to be opened up to generate the code.
Ring this guy (07970) 388690 or 01395 223626
He does mobile radio code thingys.
Should charge £8 over the phone, £10 onsite.
Hope this helps
