The talent just doesn't seem to be there any more. Some of the stuff shown on telly now is absolutely abismal
Yeah, but you don't remember the total crap like George and Mildred, Sale of the Century, the fact that there were only three TV channels ..... sure there's a lot of tosh now but it's really not changed, just our memory of it.

I think 289's right on this one....

Mind You Language?
Lame Ducks?
The Happy Apple?

There has always been utter tosh on TV, with a few diamonds in there that get remembered..... bit like the charts really!

Where are the 'replacements'?!!!

Look around! I shall list (90's onwards)..

Rock Profiles/Little Britain (Lucas and Walliams)
Shooting Stars (Reeves and Mortimer)
Alan Partridge
The Sketch Show
Ab Fab
The Office
My Family
Men Behaving Badly
Blackadder
Fools and Horses (OK 80's but 90's too )
People Like Us
Terry and Julian
Vicar of Dibley
etc.

The best period of 'double acts' was the comic strip era a few years ago.....
Fry and Laurie
Mayall and Edmonson
French and Saunders
Smith and Rhyss-Jones
There's more I'm sure

I do agree there's also a lot of crap now, but then there was a lot of crap back in the 60/70/80's too, we've just conveniently forgotten them.

Found this place that lists loads of british comedy

Bravo2zero is right, it is a shame that there are so few really talented entertainers about now. Even Jim Davidson and Jasper Carrot who were very good when they started have had to revert to gutter humour to try to raise a laugh.

Hopefully some new talent will emerge eventually, The Office was very clever and comedians like Peter Kay hold out hope for us as well. Of course there were poor shows in the past, but the good ones were absolutely peerless.

Sorry to hear about the suicide.

Les

Vicar of Dibley
What a load of rubbish that is. Anyone seriously think that is a classic? And Alan Partridge is a hoot, second series was the best.

League of Gentlemen and Big Train. Both comedy masterpieces IMHO.

BTW A colleague of mine was stunned to see the road where he lives on central news today. The on the buses bloke lived just up the road from him!
