Very sad
Was a tremendous British comedy which would do well to come back now on evening telly and replace some of the total cr@p thats shown now
Why is it that comedy produced in the 60's/70's and 80's just can not be matched now with the very rare exception.
Where are the replacements to double acts like Morcombe and Wise and the Two Ronnies etc?
Where are the replacements for outstanding stand up and sketch show comedy like Spike Miligan and Monty Python?
The talent just doesn't seem to be there any more. Some of the stuff shown on telly now is absolutely abismal

I think 289's right on this one....
Mind You Language?
Lame Ducks?
The Happy Apple?
There has always been utter tosh on TV, with a few diamonds in there that get remembered..... bit like the charts really!

Where are the 'replacements'?!!!
Look around! I shall list (90's onwards)..
Rock Profiles/Little Britain (Lucas and Walliams)
Shooting Stars (Reeves and Mortimer)
Alan Partridge
The Sketch Show
Ab Fab
The Office
My Family
Men Behaving Badly
Blackadder
Fools and Horses (OK 80's but 90's too )
People Like Us
Terry and Julian
Vicar of Dibley
etc.
The best period of 'double acts' was the comic strip era a few years ago.....
Fry and Laurie
Mayall and Edmonson
French and Saunders
Smith and Rhyss-Jones
There's more I'm sure
I do agree there's also a lot of crap now, but then there was a lot of crap back in the 60/70/80's too, we've just conveniently forgotten them.
Found this place that lists loads of british comedy

Drac I agree with most of that list but again most of that stems from early to mid 90's and things like Blackadder are well and truly finished as far as any new series being made and you have to wait for the repaeats to come round time and time again.
The office is the only true quality comedy to come through recently in my opinion.
The list below all date from the early to mid 90's or earlier like u say in the case of Only Fools and Horses. The other stuff you listed is ****e in my opinion such as Alan Partridge and My Family etc, got to be one of the most useless comedies I have ever seen, just can't stand them. Plus the below list are no longer in production as far as I know so have to rely on repeat after repeat (apart from Ab Fab maybe?)
Shooting Stars
Ab Fab
Men Behaving Badly
Blackadder
Fools and Horses (OK 80's but 90's too )
Vicar of Dibley
These are all early 90's with only French and Saunders still going strong but in different programs.
Fry and Laurie
Mayall and Edmonson
French and Saunders
Smith and Rhyss-Jones
Also on the point of double acts how come their life span has decreased so much? The 4 doubles above could still be going strong and very popular but they don't seem to go any more than 10 years. Morcombe and Wise went on for decades and they could never be described as boring or run out of material!

Bravo2zero is right, it is a shame that there are so few really talented entertainers about now. Even Jim Davidson and Jasper Carrot who were very good when they started have had to revert to gutter humour to try to raise a laugh.
Hopefully some new talent will emerge eventually, The Office was very clever and comedians like Peter Kay hold out hope for us as well. Of course there were poor shows in the past, but the good ones were absolutely peerless.
Sorry to hear about the suicide.

Vicar of Dibley
What a load of rubbish that is. Anyone seriously think that is a classic? And Alan Partridge is a hoot, second series was the best.

League of Gentlemen and Big Train. Both comedy masterpieces IMHO.
BTW A colleague of mine was stunned to see the road where he lives on central news today. The on the buses bloke lived just up the road from him!
