Hello
There was a power cut in Crowborough a couple of months ago. Sadly I wasn't prepared and had to wander round the house with the light of my laptop computer illuminating the way.
I wasn't amused at the time...
Steve.

I had half a candle and a maglite with the batteries nearly flat to see me through. No computer I was due to get my bike running this evening - I'd been looking forward to it all day. Grrr

Used to live in Finchampstead and bought a generator due to to all the power failures.
At the end of the distribution line and therfore board would not do any thing about it.
Still have the generator and still comes in usefull every so often.

We keep on getting statements that this country is on a knife edge for power supplies too. Bit of a worry if it gets much worse.
What kind of bike UB?

Steve which side of Crowborough Hill are you? A few months ago there was a power cut which took out half of Crowborough, (Queens Road side) and they traced the fault to a bit of cable at the bottom of my drive. I tried to explain to them that as I had power the rest of Crowborough could suffer but they isisted on digging it up! I kept them in cups of tea and biscuits until about 1am.

AFAIK, there is spare capacity in the system. Certainly, they've recently shut a coal fired power station, a big one, one of three on the Trent south of Newark.

It'll be a scam to get prices up again!

Alcazar,
The problem isn't with the Power Generation, its the decaying state of the Distribution System, i.e. The National Grid and the REC network. Each transformation down in power, from 400kV to 410V, is in effect a bottleneck in the system and this combined with many of the underground cables being in excess of 30 years old, leads to overstressed cables and subsequently 'Fault Conditions'. Faults on the big cables, i.e. 400kV, 275kV and 132kV can take upto 6 months to repair!

Next door neighbour works at Drax. Says there isn't the slack in the system that there used to be (i.e. power stations closing)
If we get a bad winter he said there was likely to be power cuts as the system would fall over.
He also said the South East would suffer most. Don't quite understand that one but probably due to the comments above about the distribution network?

Really good looking bike UB, you'll get a lot of fun out of that.
I had bikes up until recently, mainly Kwackers in recent years but sold the 6R a while ago since I could not justify that and a Scoob to Her Indoors! Really missing it now and might be tempted back again.
Enjoy
