Thruston is great - I did a really good track day consisting of

4 laps in MG ZS
4 laps in Ferrari 355
4 laps in Ferrari 360
6 laps in formula renault
1 high speed ride in MG touring car (lame)

had the ferrari up to 220 kmph

about £300

only trouble was that the formula renault is rev restricted

Brands Hatch.
When I went they were teaching the racing lines in Fiesta XR2i [I'm quite old] then you progressed on to the single seater Formula Ford efforts.
Really enjoyable, instructors were cool and I even got awarded a few hundred extra rpm [they limit you] for driving courteously.

Goochie

I wouldn't doubt that for a minute.
I've also done the Ferrari Experience which put us in Golf GTi, Ferrari Modena, Ferrari 348, Porsche 911 and Lotus Elise.

Now my favourite Ferrari is the 348 but if you wanted to be a hooligan the car to have was the Elise. Absolutely magical driving that thing.

At the end of the day, if my pops gave me this as a present, I'd be a very happy chappy

Forget the Formula Fords at Brands, what he wants is Formula Palmer Audi cars at Bedford.

These are seriously quick and you are not limited to 4,000rpm like Brands, you can use all they have

One way you could do it is to get the cheapest Thruxton experience and give him £100 to spend when he gets there on extra laps in what ever he likes the look of:

Porsche 996 Turbo
Ferrari 355
Ferrari 355 Spider
Formula Renault
Porsche Boxter
Merc CLK
Lotus Elise

I know and I haven't done it because of that, but it is the lad's birthday after all

I have been in the two seater though and its mind numbingly quick. The levels of grip cannot be described.

Its the closest you can get to Formula One, outside of, er, Formula One

I believe Aintree does an F1 drive experience, but costs well over a grand. Saloons first, then FFord, then F3 then 10 laps of 1996 F1 car.

I found a great page recently which listed all available driving days with prices and details of what you get. I'll see if I can dig it out.
