help needed with second sky remote and magic eye
#1
Hi all.
I have fitted a secondary sky remote with one of those magic eye things in the bedroom of my house.
It had been working for weeks but now has stopped.
The remote still controls the normal tv functions (sony) as it did but will not change the sky channel anymore.
The only thing that has changed is I was forced to unplug the sky box downstairs from the mains then plug it in again.
I cannot figure it out. I have two of the magic eye kits, so I swapped over to the other one and again the remote works on the tv functions and the picture is there, but the sky channel will not change.
Has anyone had this before, is it something simple that I haven't considered?

Hi dunk,
the LED on the box on the aerial plug is still on. and the picture appears to be getting to the tv so the aerial is still plugged in at the sky box end.
Not sure what you mean by power to the rf plug though.
Have noticed the picture seems a little worse int hat I can see some fuzz when the picture is very dark.
Is there a way of switching of the return dc signal down the rf line into the digi box which I might have accidentally knocked?

If you've disconnected it from the mains, then as DJ Dunk says it's probably as a result of the RF setting being restored to the factory defailt.
Enter your Sky Box installation menu by pressing "Services", Entering the System Setup Menu, then pressing, "0", "1", and "Select".
One of the options in there is related to the RF Power output (Can't remember what it's labelled as - may even simply be "RF 2" or similar - sorry). Make sure it's switched to on

Sounds like you have no power to the magic eye. You need to go into the services menu, then option 4 follower by 01 select. This will bring up the menu to turn on the power supply to output two for the magic eye.

Mine did this aswell and had me baffled for ages. I checked all the service menu settings and even went and bought another "magic eye" but still no go..
It eventually started working again but very intermitantly as everytime i got the sky box out of standby i had to unplug the lead to the magic eye and plug it in again for it to work..
got sky+ now and its working fine (so far)

Yup, a light on the magic eye box indicates that power is being sent from the Sky box via your ariel cables. Without it it won't work. Check your connections, sounds like you've got one loose.

nope, light is now completely on, when using either box.
rf output according to setting is switched to on but neither box does what it is meant to.
Have unplugged several times. No change.
cables were made by the satellite installer and appear to be decent quality, but they run outside the house.
Aerials are being redone tomorrow with an amplifier in the roof splitting the signal all round the house.
Apparently the modern amplifiers for doing this still alow the magic eyes to be sued, can anyone confirm this?
Perhaps once it is done it will all work again.

ok guys, all sorted as of today, thanks for all your help.
What it came down to was the fact that the magic eye installations are tempremental when used with an aerial splitter on the output of the digibox.
I now have had the aerial set up nicely sorted and have a proper amplifier in the roof with no splitter and no nasty runs of cable external to my house.
And, as confirmed by the aerial guy in advance, the magic eyes will now work from all four other rooms of the house which currently have sky.
