Employers reference
#4
Why don't you just ask him to give you personally the reference when it's written, so that you can photocopy it to send off with job applications. Tell him that it'll save him the hassle of having to waste his time replying to all the requests he receives, as you are sure he has better things to do

Unfortunatly, a lot of employers won't accept a reference in this way due to possibility of forgery etc.
Also, he never answers my calls or e-mails and hangs up if I withhold my number because he knows he owes me £2500 and he doesn't have the ***** to speak to me.
Today he has even stopped all my domain names from working (that he said he would host) so that I can't recieve mails on the address I've been using on my CV.

Since being made redundant and being ripped off for a months wages and subsequent legal happenings, I obviously don't trust my former employer to give me a decent reference.
How do I find out what he's saying about me and what can I do about it?
I've no specific reason to think he's not giving the reference I deserve (and that he promised to give, he used the word "glowing reference") but after the above problems and some minor things that have happened (like turning off all my e-mail accounts this morning with no prior warning ) I want to know what he's saying about me.

He can't give you a bad reference, he can either refuse or just say that you worked there.
Best thing to do is use them but explain that ya had some 'problems' thats what i did!!!

Nope, only the company owner, everyone else was made redundant. The only people there are him and 2 new directors.
I know the person I use as my 2nd reference will give me an excellent response, but it doesn't look good to a prospective employer when your previous employer doesn't respond.

Employee ref come from people that worked above - or alongside you in the old company - if they have moved on it wont have the companies address on. Just get another m8 that worked there to give you a reference. If they cant accept that then say they have all moved on and nobody left to give you a reference that knew you. Maybe show old yearly job review data? You should be able to do it..

Get him to print it out on company headed paper and sign it - job done.
I have even known people write their own reference and send it to their ex boss to print and sign!

Still it doesn't seem to be affecting my job prospects, got told I was "reserve candidate" for a good job this morning, I just hope the other guy doesn't want the job.

I had an **** of a boss once, escorted me off the premises the instant I handed my notice in, he didn't like it one bit. I hadn't done anything wrong at all. I told the agency about the problems I was having and they passed that onto the people that hired me and they were happy for me to give them my previous two employers as a reference instead.
