After searching the BBS for insurance advice I got a list as long as a Vectra wheelie.

Phoned ‘em all – and more. Ended up with three quotes of £670 which is a bit heavy for an old bugger of 46 – clean licence – evidence of three years total no accidents from current and previous employer

Biggest surprise –

Best price – RAC – phone 0345 121345 (also Hastings Direct and Supercar Insurance)
Highest price – Privilege - £1506 after 2 goes

Biggest disappointment –

Best price would have been Direct Line - £515!!

After 3 calls I finally convinced them that a Marketing Manager doing 10k business miles is not in the same class as a minicab driver. Then they wouldn’t accept evidence of no accidents from a previous employer. Still – must be worth a call on 0121 236 2468

So Direct Line insure scoobys now do they? When I got my turbo last year I had to part company with them because they wouldn't touch the car.

Funnily enough they've just given me the best price for my wife's Sport. The website's pretty good as well because you can play around with the xs and see how it affects the premium.

Best advice is to ask what type of business the Insurance company is looking for.

Companies such as Hastings Direct, Bennetts aren't after much business from young (under 25) drivers with fast cars.

The highest quote was Hastings with an astounding £5500 quid !?!?!!?!?!

Managed to convince AXA that I was a stand-up member of society, which seems to have worked as they gave me a quote of just over £1000.

They also gave me full NCD due to driving a company car for a couple of years - which was nice

Direct Line will insure the scoob (at a good rate for me) but only if it has a tracker fitted, which pretty much puts them out of the running. Shame for them 'cos I have been with them for over 6 years and now I will have to waste my money with someone else instead.

I was with Eagle Star Direct last year who specified a Cat 1 alarm. They've merged with Zurich Municipal and are just called Eagle Star, cost me £540 for me and the wife. I've got 4 points. No requirement for an alarm. Even knocked me £20 off for having one.
