£400 odd new. I think 40gb were only introduced in September, so it is probably quite new. Do you really have 10,000 songs? for £300 you can get a brand new 20gb, holds 5000 songs and is smaller/lighter than the 40gb version.

if you are being offered one at that price, snap it up.
Bear in mind that it's also a firewire hard drive, so you can put other data on it not just songs. The dev guys here, uber-geeks that they are, use them not only for music, but also for backing up thier source code onto!

Definitely buy it, £399 for the 40Gb. That'll be a 3rd gen, they redesigned the headphone/remote socket since the last model because it kept breaking. My 20 is visibly slimmer than the 40 though, sometimes I think I'm gonna snap it
