Question

Finally got around to buying an optical lead to run from my Sky+ Digibox to my amp [Denon AVCA1SE].
I've enabled DD in the Sky menu but I still only get an analogue output.
Anyone out there playing Sky+ movies with DD soundtrack?
How did you do it then?
Tried three different optical inputs on the back of my amp with no joy

I think you only get Dolby on the Sky movies 1 and on the widescreen box office channels

Have a look at

http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...?s=&forumid=27

Plenty of info here on all thinks sky related - I only know because I spent most of yesterday browsing through the Sky+ forum

Have you enabled dolby digital on the Sky + box itself?

I have a similar problem, I've hooked my Sky + to my Denon amp but I get no sound at all, let alone analogue. I did find a menu on the Sky box that does enable dolby digital.

I also believe that DD is only on certain channels e.g. Sky Movies

I'm wondering if the optical connection is only enabled when a DD channel is on. A friend of mine has the phono connection to his amp and gets DD that way - but who wants that ? ?

I have an optical cable into my hi-fi (which is not DD5.1) - get sound on all channels through it (and it sounds fappin' ace, just gotta save up for the DD5.1. home cinema kit now)

Thanks Blair

I surfed through a few Sky related forums there but did not think of using the search

I think I have to look further into mapping the optical on my amp correctly.
Not too easy when your 2yr old has broken the remote

Then she looks at you smiles and says "Sorry Daddy".
Saved her a jolly good thrashing that did

Edited to ask Oakers if he had to map the Optical connection on his Denon or if it was picked up automatically.
When selecting DBS/SAT as the source I only ever get Analogue.
I have enabled DD on the Sky box.

two things, press the (i) on the sky handset and if the programme details top right of the bar say "DD" then its a film that is broadcast in Dolby digital

secondly,if you getting no sound out of the amp then its possible you have the amp set to output coaxial instead of optical, and vice versa

also, its wise to connect the TV to a vcr via scart, then take phono leads to the amp so you can listen to the tv through your speakers,if you dont, you wont get any sound to the amp

Have got a similar setup here in Canda. Rogers Digital STB connected via coax to my Denon amp. Had to make sure the tv channel was setup on the amp to get sound via coax, plus only get DD5.1 on progs recorded in it, otherwise it's Pro Logic.

Is fantastic to watch tv progs in DD though, really great.

i`ve got my Dolby Digital working as follows:-

In the sky+ set up make sure optical output is set to dolbyd,

Pulled analouge AV leads out of the back of my amp (sony DAV S400)
Insert the optical cable from the sky+ box into the amp, I got no sound at 1st, but directly below the input theres a small screw, I turned this can`t remember which way very slowly and i now have sound in dolby digital 5.1 on certain films.

There seems to be a problem with Sky+ on 301, 302 and 303 where you don`t get any sound on DolbyD and Sky know about this, a reboot usually solves it for a while. Or you can put the optical out in the set up back to normal, which do give sound but it wont be in DolbyD.
